The Royal College of Music, South Kensington, is host to the largest collection of Gamelan instruments in Europe. Around 30,000 GBP of these exquisite javanese instruments are crammed into an RCM basement storeroom. This week, around ten eager beavers managed to squeeze themselves into the room for a Gamelan workshop. Thanks to our instructor, Richard, for letting me record some of this.

Here are some samples:

We are given free reign on our instrument of choice

Some instruction helps us improve our technique

We've learned a traditional Indonesian tune

Watch out for forthcoming evening classes in Gamelan at the RCM.
